I know for a fact that you already do this.
But probably not as much as you should be.
It’s walking.
And yes, it is exercise just in case anybody has told you differently.
Occasionally I’ll browse (and argue on) Threads.
A post that commonly crops up goes something like this:
“I eat exactly the same as I did when I was younger but the pounds have piled on! Am I broken?”
Now think back to what 95% of people did more of during their school/uni days compared to working life.
Walking!
I worked it out earlier & I was walking a mile to and from school each day.
Then you’ve got to get to lessons, milling about during break + lunch time & taking part in PE a couple of times a week.
Our days were filled with movement.
Over 80% of the UK workforce is office based.
It’s a complete 180.
So if you reduce your activity levels whilst keeping your eating and drinking habits the exact same…
Or they even get worse…
Your whole energy balance gets turned on its head.
Did you know that for every extra 1000 steps per day, your risk of all-cause mortality reduces by 12%?
Of course some people have the schedule/lifestyle/time to be able to do more steps than others.
But I’m confident that you can find a small amount of time per day to get outside and walk.
Even 20-30 mins is enough to see meaningful psychological & physiological differences.
And if you work a desk job, 1-5 mins per hour makes a huge difference to energy expenditure over the course of a year!
So I’d recommend (ironically) sitting down and figuring out where in your day/week you can carve out some time to walk more.
But if you need help figuring out what’s actually getting in the way of your progress, drop me a message.
I’ll be happy to point you in the right direction.
